A TOTAL DISRUPTION SOIRÉE DECEMBER 15, 2013 at ECHOPLEX, Los Angeles

What started as a huge (but private) thank you for the top patrons of oversubscribed,150% funded A TOTAL DISRUPTION Kickstarter campaign has morphed into a rollicking benefit to raise the funds to build out a premium online search and discovery platform in order to make the hundreds of hours of interview footage with innovators that ATD has captured over the past 3 years an open, searchable online resource in an effort to become the hub for entrepreneurship around the world. Timoner will present this groundbreaking platform at the event.
There will be a live auction with exclusive artwork from all of the artists involved, as well as tickets and meet & greet to Andrew Bird’s upcoming Los Angeles show, dinner & boxing with Josh Harris the notorious star of WE LIVE IN PUBLIC, overnight stay & tour of Zappo’s CEO Tony Hsieh’s revolutionary Downtown Project and more. The ATD Soirée event will be a mix of audio & visual feasting, brain food, and opportunity to experience new ways of life. It is destined to change lives.

Held at the 700 seat capacity Echoplex, the Soirée will also celebrate the people who have contributed to making Los Angeles a hotbed of innovation with the growth of over 10 tech incubators including LaunchPad, Amplify, and MuckerLab in the past three years.

PERFORMANCES BY:
AMANDAPALMER@amandapalmer                                                                                          Punk-cabaret icon Amanda Fucking Palmer, formerly of the Dresden Dolls, is known for pushing the boundaries of music, art and lifestyle. Challenging the orthodoxy of the music industry, she grabbed international headlines when she crowdfunded nearly $1.2 million through Kickstarter from over 25K fans who preordered her Theater is Evil album. Amanda Palmer is the inspiration for ATD’s CEA (Chief Executive Artist) series because of her unique relationship to her fan base and her incredibly disruptive use of social media to circumvent the middle man and reinvent the way artists can make a living.
SHEPARD FAIREY @OBEYGIANT
Defiant and controversial, Shepard Fairey is a worldrenowned graphic artist and illustrator who gained notoriety with his “Andre the Giant Has a Posse” sticker campaign, launched in 1990, and his inspirational “Hope” and “Progress” posters for the 2008 presidential campaign of Barack Obama. His work is in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego; and the National Portrait Gallery, Washington, DC. Fairey is also the founder of Studio Number One, a graphic design company.
JHAMEEL @jhameel
YouTube star, Jhameel, was born of Korean, Japanese, and Mongolian ancestry. He personifies the democratizing opportunity we all have to reach people with our work and make our way completely independently. The provocative, androgynous, multifaceted indie pop artist grew up in a sleepy town in Minnesota. Creative, driven, and multilingual, the high cost of furthering his education led him to a military recruiter, and while still in high school, he entered into the U.S. Army’s Reserve Officer Training Corps program. He eventually dropped out of the ROTC due to a political awakening and chose instead to embark on a music career of highenergy, synthy R&B pop that draws inspiration from the likes of Prince, Phoenix, and MGMT. Jhameel was named “2012 Band on the Rise” by San Francisco Bay Guardian.
ONDI TIMONER @onditimoner
Ondi Timoner (Producer/Director) has the rare distinction of winning the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival twice. Her 2004 doc, DIG!, explores the collision of art & commerce through the starcrossed rivalry of the Dandy Warhols and the Brian Jonestown Massacre, while her 2009 top prizewinner, WE LIVE IN PUBLIC, examines how willingly we will trade our privacy in the virtual age through the social experiments of Internet visionary, Josh Harris. Both were acquired by the Museum of Modern Art in NewYork for their permanent collection. Her other features include The Nature of the Beast (1994), Join Us (2007), and COOL IT (2010). Through A TOTAL DISRUPTION, she releases weekly short docs that document the thought leaders and doers who are driving the greatest revolution in the history of mankind with technology including Reddit’s Alexis Ohanian, Twitter’s Jack Dorsey, and Zappos’ Tony Hsieh among others. She also produces and hosts BYOD (BRING YOUR OWN DOCS). BYOD is the only talk show in the world focused solely on documentaries with an archive of over 100 episodes in which Ondi interviews top doc filmmakers about their work.
ALEXIS OHANIAN @alexisohanian
Selfdescribed “startup guy with the aim of making the world suck less,” Ohanian cofounded the social news and entertainment site, reddit, which became known as the front page of the Internet. Alexis also helped launch hipmunk, considered by Forbes as one of the world’s best travel sites. In 2010, Ohanian was an outspoken critic of SOPA & PIPA and advocated for an open Internet. He invests and advises over seventy tech startups and runs Breadpig, a social enterprise platform whose profits are donated to social causes. Named twice to Forbes’ 30 under 30 list, most recently, he wrote a national bestselling book, Without Their Permission, a memoir full of useful advice for entrepreneurs of all ages. ATD’s episode on reddit went viral after Ondi + Alex connected deeply, and he has been avid supporter of ATD ever since recording a memorable endorsement during the Kickstarter campaign.
TIM CHANG
Mayfield Fund’s Tim Chang is a visionary venture investor who has made Forbes Midas List of Top 100 Tech Investors, as well as being named one of CNET’s 12 Most Influential Tech Investors. He is wellknown for his thought leadership in Gamification, Quantified Self, and Behavioral/Social Science led Design. His investments include the disruptive ride share company, LYFT. In addition to his tech pursuits, Tim is an accomplished musician and currently performs with BlackMahal and Coverflow (composed entirely of Facebook, Google, game inventors and VC’s.) ATD has a special episode of the supergroup Coverflow in the hopper, but when Ondi saw Tim present his formula for creativity at Tony Hsieh’s Downtown Project in
Las Vegas, she asked him to bring the wisdom to LA exclusively for our disruptors.

WHAT IS A TOTAL DISRUPTION? @totaldisruption
A TOTAL DISRUPTION was born out of Timoner’s immersion in the tech world with her film WE LIVE IN PUBLIC, but this time she sought to explore the flip side of that dark look at our online future. She saw how verticals were collapsing across industries, and that the Internet was bringing about the democratization of information and opportunity – and forcing us all to be more independent, yet more connected, than ever been before.
Over the next three years, from San Francisco to New York City, from garages to boardrooms, Timoner shot hundreds of interviews with startup founders, tech titans, venture capitalists along with artists and musicians, among them, Alexis Ohanian (Reddit), Bram Cohen and Matt Mason (BitTorrent), Kevin Systrom (Instagram), Tony Hsieh (Zappos), Jack Dorsey (Twitter), Amanda Palmer and Shepard Fairey, who are leveraging technology to drive the greatest revolution in the history of mankind. With 54% of millennials starting companies or pursuing a creative career and with the frightening prospect that over 45% of jobs will be lost to computer intelligence over the next few decades, the goal of ATD is to empower and educate us all so we can make our visions real and thrive in this online environment by building a search and discovery
platform that will pave the way for how new information can be shared and received so that we can all grow smarter, faster, together.
A TOTAL DISRUPTION releases weekly episodes across 9 unique series from Startup Life to Wizard, in order to humanize the invisible superheroes and innovators behind the technology, who are creating the seismic (or “tech”tonic shifts as Ondi puts it) that permeate every aspect of our lives. Also as part of this project, Timoner is producing and directing a course called LEAN CONTENT with Eric Ries, author of The Lean Startup, to teach ‘tech’niques” to content creators across all aspects of realizing their work: from financing, to distribution, to marketing, and monetization. The tenpart course is the first-ever course for content creators, to be released next year on ATD and offered in partnership across most entertainment guilds and organizations, features Ries’ research, punctuated by personal anecdotes from artists who have succeeded in the brave new media world, and visits with the founders of the most innovative companies across all aspects of content creation, from crowdfunding to distribution and monetization, ie. BitTorrent,
Indiegogo, Seed & Spark, VHX, Gumroad, Reddit etc.
