A Heartbeat And A Guitar – Paperback release
Well folks it’s been a year since my MAY DAY show, for which my friend Antonino D’Ambrosio generously wrote an amazing essay. The emphasis of the MAY DAY show… the rights of the working class and renewal of the human spirit, despite the distress we face, continue to be themes of my art and Antonino’s writing and filmmaking. If you believe in art as a tool of justice you should read Antonino’s “A Heartbeat And A Guitar”, now available in paperback(I also did the cover). I have worked with AIM(The American Indian Movement), and I’m now working with Aaron Huey on his Pine Ridge reservation project, so the Native American issues addressed in “A Heartbeat And A Guitar” are important to me and something I think people should look into. Folk legend Pete Seeger calls the book “A rare work that is beautiful and inspiring.” It’s coming out this week available everywhere books are sold including Amazon.com, nationbooks.com perseusbooks.com. Check it out. Thanks for caring.

OBEY X LA STREET ART
Only fitting that we took some time last week to make our way around Downtown Los Angeles to add a touch of OBEY ART to the ever growing LA Freewalls Project. Here are a few pics of the work Shepard and Crew did in the LA Arts District. The imagery painted is a comment on the economical status and the crooked political landscape of today that was shaped by the Reagan Administration – THINK ABOUT IT. Enjoy.
Special thanks to the LA Freewalls Project, Michael at Angel City Brewing, Tracy at ArtShare Los Angeles, Fred at Mr. Speedy Plumbing, and of course, Pepper.

Your input please
Shepard has been commissioned by the City of West Hollywood, CA to create a work of public art for the City’s New West Hollywood Library (scheduled to open in late September of this year). Shepard is gathering input from people who live, work, or play in West Hollywood to help inform the work. But we also thought it would be great to get input from people who may only know of West Hollywood through its reputation. If you’d like to share your thoughts with Shepard please take this quick (4 question) SURVEY .
Thanks – and come to West Hollywood in September to see what he comes up with!
