Green Patriot Posters x Shepard Fairey

Green Patriot Posters at Space 15 Twenty

Inspired by a World War II poster exhibition, Green Patriot Posters is a design campaign that encourages building a sustainable economy. “The World War II posters were able to create a sense of heroism and strength to everyday actions,” co-founder Edward Morris explains.  “I suddenly realized that is something we really need for the sustainability movement — images that can impart solidarity, urgency, optimism, anger, and the feeling that you can make a difference.”  Founded in 2008, the initiative began with a bus ad campaign and has since organized a number of educational programs and exhibitions.

SB1070 x Prison Economics

We recently came across an NPR article that speaks about the role of prisons and the benefits prison makers have to gain with the implementation of the SB1070 law with the expected increased of imprisoned immigrants.  Check it out.  On a related note, an example of the absurdity surrounding arrests and SB1070, an friend of OBEY was recently arrested, along with 23 other students, professionals, and activists, in Los Angeles for civil disobedience against SB1070.  The group is now being slammed with serious charges of resisting arrest which faces up to a year in jail.   Below is a link for more information about the case and a place to show your support.

Democrat Scapegoats?

The recession has people in this country frustrated and looking for scapegoats. The Democrats, as the president’s party/party in power, have recently been the victims of American’s frustrations and a “throw the bums out” mentality. With the mid-term election cycle and its circus of distorted ads and over-simplified talking points now concluded, let’s let the dust settle and take a sober look at what Obama is really doing and/or has done so far. I’m not completely happy with Obama’s performance by any means, but I agree with neither the left wingers who say Obama is a traitor or Manchurian candidate, or the right wingers who claim Obama is a socialist, Muslim, over spender. I do think Obama has been in a tough spot. One of the problems is that many people don’t have a deep understanding of what Obama is doing. Information is important to a critical analysis. Check out the snarky, but informative link below. Thanks for caring.

Glen E. Friedman x Shepard Fairey

Glen E. Friedman is one of the most significant photographers of his generation. His images of the early Dogtown skateboarders in the late 1970s along with the burgeoning hip-hop and punk rock scenes of the 80s and 90s have made him one of the most important photographers today. With the uncanny ability to capture images of people whose subculture was about to change the world, his subjects range from Jay Adams and Tony Alva to Run DMC, Public Enemy and the Beastie Boys to Minor Threat and Black Flag, among many others. Over the years, Friedman has been able to capture the moments of the movements that defined an era. This has cemented his place in history as an uncompromising, extremely gifted artist.
