Mr. Brainwash is an enigma. I want to hug him one second and smack him the next. He is awesome, infuriating, almost impossible to define, but if an artist is defined by relentless, obsessive passion, then MBW is definitely an artist. Which kind of artist though? When I first met MBW he was a film maker. He started documenting me putting art up on the streets and in galleries back in ’99. He has hundreds of hours of footage and often risked his neck climbing with a camera to very dangerous spots. MBW’s camera was ALWAYS on…

1331 Sunset (home of SNO and SUBLIMINAL PROJECTS) was recently featured on a new television series where a crew comes in and “greens” up your surroundings!  Below is a little about the series. Our episode of Alter Eco will be Monday June 16th at 9 pm ET/PT on Planet Green!  Planet Green replaces Discovery’s Home channel.

Adrian Grenier, star of HBO’s hit series Entourage, is a real-life “greenie” who wants to show audiences how they too can live the “green life.” Using as base camp an LA home currently undergoing its own green makeover, this 13-part series follows his “Green Team” of experts as they help both celebrities and ordinary people learn the small steps they can take to transition their lives to green bliss.

Say yes!

My friend Steven Scott who works at my favorite LA breakfast spot, The Mustard Seed Cafe, gave me a copy of his band’s demo CD. The band is called AFTERNOONS and their music is very symphonic, uplifting, indie rock in the vein of the Polyphonic Spree or newer Flaming Lips. The standout track is called “Say Yes” and I was so inspired by it that I decided to make a poster for the band to put up on the street, and a few to sell to recoup printing costs. The edition is only 150. The prints will go on sale Monday, 6/9. There is a myspace link below if you’d like to hear them. After I played the song for Steve Jones, he immediately put it on Jonesy’s Jukebox.

Here is what Steven Scott has to say about his band:

“With two drummers, a trumpet, and a classically trained opera singer, local rock band AFTERNOONS sounds more like a train robbery, or circus revolution than your ordinary rock outfit. You can catch their music being played on INDIE 103 and KCRW, or see them live as they play every Monday night in June at Spaceland (1717 Silverlake blvd, FREE!!)”.

Venice Mural

A couple weeks ago my friend Chaz from the London Police was in town and invited me to rock a spot with him, D-Face, and Flying Fortress. I grabbed my boys Z Bomit and Nic Bowers and we rocked it in one day. The walls are in front of a bar called The Garter in Venice Beach on Lincoln Blvd. between Washington and Venice. Check it out if you are on the West Side.

OBAMA NEXT STEP

Obama has finally clenched the nomination for President of The United States. The first black man ever to do so. I think it is a reflection of his character and desire to unite the country, that he did not mention this racial milestone once in his speech last night. Read the whole thing below.
