Icons: Shepard Fairey

Saturday August 12 @ 7:30pm ET only on G4

Icons is ‘a day’ and ‘the life’ of today’s maverick entrepreneurs, entertainers, and pop culture institutions. They make, break or rewrite the rules for everyone and everything that follows. Icons gives viewers a true inside look at what makes their heroes tick.

“Keep your eyes and mind open, and question everything” is the motto that artist, activist and pop culture pioneer Shepard Fairey lives by. While he was a student at the Rhode Island School of Design, 19
year old Fairey began plastering images of wrestler Andre the Giant on any surface he could find. Almost 20 years later that image has become known around the world and is the foundation of the phenomenon called Obey Giant. G4 TV takes a look at the life of a true original on Icons: Shepard Fairey, Saturday, August 12, 7:30 PM e/t

Icons: Shepard Fairey premieres on G4 Saturday August 12 @ 7:30pm ET.

Aesthetic Apparatus

A Poster Retrospective at Subliminal Projects
Opening Reception: Sat, Feb 25th, 2006, 8pm – 11pm
Exhibition Dates: February 25, 2005 – March 25, 2006

Often considered Minneapolis’ best totally unknown design super team, Aesthetic Apparatus was founded around 1999 in Madison, Wisconsin by Dan Ibarra and Michael Byzewski as a fun side project from their “real” jobs.  In August of 2002 AA became an official functioning design studio when Michael and Dan moved and opened shop in Minneapolis. Over the years their limited edition, screen printed concert posters have secretly snuck into the hearts and minds of a small, rather silent group of socially awkward music and design nerds. Now, Aesthetic Apparatus is a full time, full-fledged, insanely unstoppable, and occasionally award winning design mega-studio. They will break your heart and drink your blood.

This Poster Retrospective is the first of its kind to exhibit in Los Angeles.  Since their existence, Aesthetic Apparatus has created over 200 of some of the most creative and innovated poster designs today. Their design work and limited edition screen-printed posters have been seen in CMJ, PRINT, HOW, Communication Arts, Rolling Stone, ReadyMade and American Handgun Lover magazine.
