Shepard on Paris, Politics, and Activism via Forbes

Shepard spoke with Forbes while installing his latest Earth Crisis Globe at the Eiffel Tower and discussed politics, environmental activism, and what’s in store for the future. Read the blurb below and click more to read the full piece.

“In a lot of ways I feel like the project (Earth Crisis Globe) now has a greater degree of weight and I don’t know if I’m worthy. I’m always trying to use my art to create important conversations and this is a moment where there isn’t just one conversation to have. So I hope that looking at how interconnected things are, which is part of the aim of the piece, will encourage unity rather than fear and division. I wanted to come to France because I don’t want to live my life in fear. I think that for a very very small minority to hold the majority hostage in a sense, in their minds, is a terrible thing. So I wanted to be here.”

House of Vans recap!

Thank you to everyone who came out to see COVERT TO OVERT: The Photography of Obey Giant by Jon Furlong, at House of Vans London this week! The show, which originally debuted at Subliminal Projects in Los Angeles in October, features photographs taken on the road with Shepard and his team. Furlong artistically captures the process of Fairey’s gallery exhibitions, street art installations, and murals, while also providing a narrative about the culture, mood, and energy that fuels the process. House of Vans London was the perfect spot to host the show, harnessing the same energy and creativity captured in many of the photos. In addition, the London event featured unique video content, a DJ battle between Dogfish and Wellgosh, and offered exclusive screen printed tee’s by Los Angeles live printing crew HIT+RUN! The show was a great success! Special thanks to House of Vans London, Jon Furlong, Simon Holmes, Steve Ternosky and everyone at OBEY Clothing and OBEY UK for making the night something to remember. WITNESS AGAINST TORTURE IN CUBA

I have been opposed to the Guantanamo Bay detention camp since it opened because I think all human beings have the right to the same due process of law provided for in the U.S. legal system. I was happy to contribute a graphic to the organization Witness Against Torture for their activist efforts to close Guantanamo. I was also very happy when President Obama campaigned to close Guantanamo, but unfortunately was blocked by both Republicans and his own party. The great news is that Witness Against Torture are still pushing hard to raise awareness about Guantanamo. They are in Cuba now! Check out some of their actions.
-Shepard

Witness Against Torture (WAT) is peacefully protesting in Cuba right now in an attempt to help draw attention to the ongoing human rights abuse at Guantanamo. More information is included below.

Additionally, please read a recent article by The Guardian discussing the WAT vigil.
