Obey Giant Headlines

ART AS A WEAPON

I met Jeffrey Durkin while in San Diego painting my Burmese Monk mural and we discussed his film “Art as a Weapon.” I really liked what the film was about and am happy to be a part of it. He documents and follows a school in Myanmar that teaches street art as a form of non-violent struggle, and shines the light on Buddhism and human rights in Burma – and clearly anything that incorporates art and activism is something that I support. If you have a moment check it out below.

Dennis Morris / The Bollocks: Release and Book Signing

In 2013, Shepard collaborated with photographer Dennis Morris on a series of works focusing on the life of Sid Vicious, culminating in Subliminal Project’s joint show SID: Superman Is Dead. Dennis’s shots of Sid Vicious served as the basis for this collaboration specifically covering Sid’s volatile tenure as the Sex Pistols’s bassist. Now in 2014, Morris presents a comprehensive exposé of the entire band in his work, The Bollocks. This new publication features a foreword by Shepard and additional texts by Dennis Morris and Billy Idol. Limited to 200 copies, The Bollocks will also come with two individually signed and numbered 18×12 inch prints by Morris to be presented in a hand stenciled wooden box. Be sure to check out this extraordinary glimpse into the world of the Sex Pistols. Click here to purchase and if you’re in the Los Angeles area be sure to check out Dennis’s book signing on Friday, December 19 at Known Gallery on North Fairfax Avenue. Details below:

Earth Crisis Prints

As you all know I’m concerned about the future of the planet. My political stance on protecting the planet is driven by my concern for the quality of life for future generations, not by any financial benefit for me. When you look at the true motives of those who deny climate change, they are transparent in their greed or their political benefit for those aligning themselves with certain corporate donors. The correlation between Carbon emissions and climate change is virtually unanimous in the scientific community. I’m not an alarmist, but I do think people need to understand reality… check out some of the info on this NASA site: http://climate.nasa.gov The government does not want to send citizens into panic and hysteria, so I imagine these stats err on the mild side. If you aren’t a bit concerned, what is it going to take… Florida, New Orleans, and NYC submerged?

Proceeds from this print will go to the NRDC to aid in their efforts to influence legislation to protect the environment. Thanks for caring.
