HELP STOP POLICE MILITARIZATION!
I’ve always thought the U.S. spends WAY too much on the military, ten times as much as the next highest nation, China. A by-product of this excessive spending is a surplus of equipment that ends up being used to militarize our domestic police forces. This results in abuse of the equipment by police. Check out this video from Brave New Films. I’d rather see my tax dollars going to schools, infrastructure, or clean energy research and development. Thanks for caring.

Armored tanks. Automatic weapons. Tear gas. In small towns across America.
When did we all become the potential target of hostile military-police aggression? When the federal government decided to spend billions getting police every toy they could possibly want.
To use against our own citizens. With no protocol or training on when such force and intimidation may be justified.

Genesis – A Celebration of Emerging Artists // Hollywood Reporter
Check out this story about The Art of Elysium‘s Genesis show taking place TONIGHT!
From the The Hollywood Reporter: Most arts gala fundraisers for the arts feature star-studded guest lists and exorbitant ticket prices — along with a chance to be bored over cocktails by well-heeled patrons who willingly part with a small fortune to sit next to Sting or some other luminary. Well, on Sept. 5, The Art of Elysium is doing things a little differently this year at downtown L.A.’s Ace Theatre, where Shepard Fairey, Spike Jonze, Beck, Jakob Dylan, Moby and the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs’ Karen O” are curating a street art happening and concert in the newly refurbished Spanish Gothic 1927 movie palace.

PAY 2 PLAY HITS THE STREETS!
I have frequently talked about the many problems created by the current campaign finance structure. Corporate donations distort their influence in politics and corrupt our democracy. This is an issue not many Americans seem interested in, but it effects all Americans by insuring that corporate interests are put before the interests of the average person. Genuine democracy should guarantee that politicians create the greatest good for the greatest number of people, but that idea has eroded with the favors owed by politicians to corporations in exchange for their contributions.
Please support my friend John Wellington Ennis’ film PAY 2 PLAY opening in select cities this month.
