THE PROVOCATEURS UPDATE FROM CHICAGO

The crew and I arrived in Chicago three days ago to begin the setup for The Provocateurs art show and to start painting my mural. My mural wall is a killer spot at Wabash and 9th on one of Columbia College’s buildings. There will be several other murals going up in the same corridor by artists from The Provocateurs show including POSE, RETNA, and Cleon Peterson. The majority of the fine art is now in our gallery space safely and we are arranging the display for your viewing pleasure. Thanks to Jon Furlong for the awesome photos, and to my crew of Nic Bowers, Dan Flores, and Rob Zagula for assistance on the mural. Stay tuned for wall art updates from both indoors and outdoors.

Art Alliance | The Provocateurs Print Series

A crucial principle of The Provocateurs show is that art should be accessible. In an effort to make work by several of these artists accessible beyond just a convenient exhibition space and free public murals, I thought it was important to produce a limited print series of fine art serigraphs by ten of the artists. These pieces are printed on archival 100% cotton rag paper with deckled edges and are available as matching number sets or individually. Many of the beautiful works in the show may be out of the price range of the average skate punk, struggling musician, or hustler of culture with student loans looming. I’m very proud of how well these prints came out, and I think they are affordable works of art. Initial sales will take place on site at Art Alliance: The Provocateurs in Chicago, but they will go for sale online at the end of the show. Email [email protected] if you’d like to be first in line to reserve a full set of the ten prints with matching numbers.

CROSS MY HEART HOPE TO DIE x SUBLIMINAL PROJECTS

SUBLIMINAL PROJECTS is pleased to present Vita E Morte, the first solo show of new work by multimedia art collective Cross My Heart Hope To Die (CMHHTD). The collective consists of Sean Bonner, Brevi, Andrew Kline (Strife), and DJ Muggs (Cypress Hill).

“I love the intersection of art and music. They are both great alone, but even more powerful when they are creatively intertwined. Our next art show at Subliminal features Cross My Heart Hope To Die, an awesome art and music collective that includes Andrew Kline of hardcore band Strife, DJ Muggs of Cypress Hill, and Sean Bonner, an artist, designer, and Internet activism guru. These guys collaborated on music, art, video, and public installations all with the intention of bringing wonder and excitement back into discovering music and art. I’m a big fan of all of these guys as individuals, but the collaboration between the three takes them into unique territory. Check out more on their art show Vita E Morte here!  They will be performing live, so the show will be an audio visual extravaganza not to be missed!”

Help the Honest Politician Crash the Most Expensive Senate Race of All Time

As many of you know, I think campaign finance reform is essential to restoring democracy. Here is a great video that illustrates why current campaign finance structure has compromised and corrupted quality lawmaking and governing. I’m going to do some art for this project, so stay tuned! Also, donate to their attempt to disrupt campaign donations as they currently are structured… I love the irony!    -Shepard

RIP Tommy Ramone

I met Tommy Ramone several times through Linda Ramone, who is a friend of mine. While he was only on the first three Ramone’s records, Tommy was a producer and an important part of the enduring sound of The Ramones. It’s sad that all of the original Ramones are gone. I may be doing a collaboration with The Ramones estate in the future, I’ll keep you posted. RIP Tommy.

Mustard & Navy Arrow Letterpress

The Mustard and Navy Arrow letterpress is a new iteration of one of my first Russian Constructivist inspired prints that I made in 1996. I used to screen print 100 prints to put up on the street and 100 to sell, but back then no one was buying my prints so I put most of them up on the street. I always liked the image a lot, and it is a crucial part of my evolution, so I thought it would be nice to make as a letterpress. Snag it now if you missed the screen print in 1996!  -Shepard

Fox News, Ten Years Later

If you have seen “Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch’s War on Journalism,” you know how biased toward the right wing Fox News is. Surprisingly, some people are still not aware how far from “fair and balanced” Fox is. Share this video link to help make EVERYONE aware of Fox’s agenda. Also, Brave New Films, the folks behind Outfoxed are constantly working on similar issues-driven projects and need your support. Make a donation to keep their work going!
