Green Power print

This “Green Power” poster is part of the art I’m working on for my upcoming POWER & GLORY art show at The Halsey in Charleston S.C. I’m honored to be showing there concurrently with Jasper Johns.   My show explores the various notions of American power and glory in terms of industry, authority, energy, the environment, politics, vice, and virtue. Keep an eye out for more.

LA ART FAIR x POWER & GLORY

I stopped by the opening of the LA Art Fair where I debuted my first prints to incorporate foil block printing. I was very happy to see the full set of Power & Glory prints framed and displayed. Paul Stolper published the prints and the printing is impeccable and luxurious. The foil has to be seen in person to be truly appreciated. If you are in LA, stop by the fair this weekend to see them, or get in touch with Paul if you can’t make it by.

CAT ART SHOW LOS ANGELES

Los Angeles’s First Cat Themed Art Show Featuring Works By Over 60 Artists Including Gary Baseman, Tim Biskup, Jill Greenberg, Ray Caesar, Marc Dennis, Charlotte Dumas, Martin Eder, Tracey Emin, Mark Ryden, FAILE, Shepard Fairey, Christian Furr, and more.

Opening Reception on Saturday, January 25th, 2014, 7-10pm at 101/Exhibit

6205 Santa Monica Boulevard, Los Angeles CA 90038

CAT ART SHOW LOS ANGELES is both a meditation and a celebration of the feline form. This exhibition goes beyond heralding felines as domesticated companion, and instead explores their role as muse and inspiration. Aloof one moment and adoring the next, their behavior alone is a constant source of artistic fodder destined for reinterpretation. Then there is their adroit physicality; be it lounging languorously across our still unread newspaper, or their instinctive predatory sensibilities.

Buff Monster x Toykio gallery

I have been friends with Buff Monster for many years and have always enjoyed his illustrative sensibility of oozy pop and gore. We recently were shown in adjoining spaces in my friend Selim’s Toykio gallery. Buff did his really cool take on my Obey Icon to point people to my work. I love the mash-up! Thanks Buff Monster.

SUBLIMINAL PROJECTS is proud to present the first ever solo show by musician, songwriter, and artist Tim Armstrong (Operation Ivy, Rancid, The Transplants), featuring never before seen artwork. The raw, hard-edged spontaneity in Armstrong’s art mirrors his approach to music making, exemplifying a “passion is more important than precision” aesthetic that speaks to the creative rebellion dwelling inside us all.

CAT ART SHOW X LOS ANGELES X January 25

An upcoming exhibit of cat-inspired art in Los Angeles is the latest opportunity for people who generally browse online cat photos and videos by themselves to appreciate them with other fans IRL (in real life).

It wasn’t difficult to find artists working today who shared a secret cat obsession. “After I got a couple of artists on board, the project snowballed,” curator Susan Michals said. “Within three weeks I had over 40 artists.” Emin, one of the biggest names on the list, “is a well known cat lover,” the curator explained.

“Cat Art Show” — a free event that runs from Jan. 25 to Feb. 2 at the gallery 101/exhibit on Santa Monica Boulevard — is expected to feature a little over 100 works for sale by 78 artists and donate some of the proceeds to the Stray Cat Alliance of Los Angeles.

Slice It Up

Some of my earliest inspiration in art and design comes from Punk and Post-Punk album art as well as the do-it-yourself ethos of the movements themselves.  I love that Punk was not about virtuosity, but ingenuity, creativity, attitude, and fearlessness. If you don’t like it, rip it up, or slice it up, and start over. Malcolm McLaren once told me “be prolific, not precious”… words to live by.
