Spencer Elden Art Show this Saturday in LA

If you are in the LA area, my friend, former co-worker, and Nirvana Baby… Spencer Elden is doing an art show/slacker fiesta on Sat. As you can see from the flyer it is a posh black tie, I mean black t-shirt, affair, so dress accordingly. Admission is free unless you wear a v-neck tee, in which case there is a strictly enforced $2 pretense charge. And yes, Spencer really is the Nirvana Baby and a solid artist, despite the lack of effort on this flyer.-Shepard

Shepard X RISK: Peace & Justice Collaboration

About a year ago I had the opportunity to collaborate on a mural in Miami during the Art Basel weekend with graffiti legend and friend, RISK.  Surprisingly this was the first time we had the chance to collaborate and it was a true honor.  RISK went down to Miami first and laid a beautiful spectrum and I came a few days later with my crew and painted in the cream details.  The mural turned out so well that RISK and I decided to collaborate once again and turn the mural concept into a HPM (Hand Painted Multiple) Edition.  RISK hand painted the background with his custom color fades and geometric shapes/patterns over my collage then we screen printed the imagery on top and varnished the whole thing.  Each of the pieces has unique details. The Edition looks amazing!  Oh, they are also signed by both of us. We are going to be releasing the 1st half of the edition on OBEY this coming Tuesday and the other half on Buckshot Prints at a later date, so stay tuned for info their release.

Check out this video that MOCATV made during the creation of the mural.  Enjoy!

Affordable Care Act Vs. ObamaCare

I always enjoy Jimmy Kimmel, but his segment exposing people’s semantic vulnerability was especially amusing and terrifying. The piece asks people which they prefer, the Affordable Care Act or ObamaCare (they are the same thing). Certain Republicans and people like the Koch brothers have bombarded the public with so much disinformation that most people dislike the name “ObamaCare” but like the ideas contained within it. Get the facts… don’t believe the hype! Check it out.

Outside the Lines Coloring Book Launch

As a kid my love of drawing evolved from two sources of inspiration… coloring books and illustrated children’s books. With the Outside the Lines Coloring Book you get both! As a parent with two girls who love to draw and are mesmerized by wacky creativity, I’m proud to be part of this project. Invest in the next generation of creative purveyors of art and mischief by picking up the OUTSIDE THE LINES coloring book: http://bit.ly/OTLBOOK. I’ll be DJ’ing the event so you’ll hear some Ramones punk nursery rhymes for sure!

Iggy and the Stooges 2013

I can’t ever do enough for Iggy and the Stooges, so I jumped at the opportunity to do the poster for their upcoming headlining gig in San Jose at the C2SV Festival Sept. 28. If you have never seen The Stooges live, they are phenomenal, and you should pick up a ticket RIGHT NOW! The Coup, Off!, and a bunch of other great bands are playing too.  For more information about performers appearing at the C2SV Music Festival, which will take place September 26-29 at various venues in Downtown San Jose, please visit c2sv.com/music/artists/
The Stooges poster is an edition of 450 and comes out Sept. 26 on obeygiant.com where 250 will be available. with the other 200 available on site at the C2SV Festival. My friend Robert Matheu shot the portrait of James Williamson and Jennifer Anderson took the Iggy photo.

BNE X PAK NUR: The Real Street Artist

Through his global travels, BNE has developed a strong empathy for those who struggle to find access to life’s basic necessities. Water is paramount. Check out this video of BNE and an Indonesian artist who is homeless. The artwork and ideas are powerful and beautiful.
