Sound and Vision Episode 2
This week we’re premiering part 2 of our series on Shepard’s art show Sound & Vision in London from October. In this episode Shepard talks about the progression of his art from stickering to murals and his intentions with the work. We look at the progression of a street installation based on a Jamie Reid piece (most famous for his work with the Sex Pistols) and Shepard discusses the attention he gets while working now as opposed to the days when only the police seemed to pay attention to what he was doing. Sedation Pill
UPDATE: Print orders will start shipping on Wednesday Jan 16th.
The “Sedation Pill” print is inspired by the title of my favorite Public Enemy album “It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back”. I think the biggest problem in America is the indifference and complacency about important issues that results from much of the population being perpetually hypnotized by conspicuous consumption, social media, entertainment, and self-medication. Using sedation and escapism for relief from the rat race might make us less aware (blissfully ignorant) but also less empowered to improve our role within the rat race… a vicious cycle of cause and effect.

Sound & Vision Video
SOUND & VISION was my first solo show in London in five years, so I felt a lot of pressure to make round 2 with the Stolenspace Gallery a strong showing. I displayed over 200 pieces of art across two spaces, including a record store install with 1,000 of my own records, as well as doing three large outdoor painted murals. In addition, I asked my friend, frequent collaborator, and favorite DJ, Z-TRIP to create the soundtrack for the show, and also perform at the opening to really bring the sound to SOUND & VISION. Photographer and videographer extraordinaire Jon Furlong documented the trip and we have a series of video shorts from the trip with supplementary interviews with me. As you can see in the video, I’m indebted to the posse of Dan Flores, Z Bomit, Jason Filipow, and Jon Furlong for working long hours to help everything come together. Check it out!
