KEEP MONEY OUT x WINNER: LANDON Wix

As many of you know, I am very passionate about combatting the corrupting influence of money in politics. I helped to judge the #KEEPMONEYOUT art contest and this design, “Monopolistic” by Landon Wix is the winner. I think the graphic simply and effectively conveys the danger oligarchy presents to democracy. In my opinion, many policy issues are negatively impacted by money in politics and striking at the root of the problem would solve many related problems. PLEASE help to spread this art and message and restore democracy where each person’s vote carries the same weight. Also, make sure you VOTE!

London x Sound & Vision Final Recap

London, London,London… let me tell ya ’bout London. SOUND & VISION was my first solo show in London in five years, so I felt a lot of pressure to make Round 2 with the StolenSpace Gallery a strong showing. My NINETEENEIGHTYFOURIA show there in 2007 was a ginormous 20,000 foot extravaganza with some massive canvases and close to 200 pieces of art. This time around I showed over 200 pieces across two spaces, including a record store install with 1,000 of my own records, as well as doing three large outdoor painted murals with the help of my awesome crew of assistants. In addition, I asked my friend, frequent collaborator, and favorite DJ, Z-TRIP to create the soundtrack for the show, and also perform at the opening to really bring the sound to SOUND & VISION. Despite the gloomy weather and a few showers, we were able to complete the outdoor murals with enough time to grab some “pick-up” spots and still get the gallery install looking spiffy. I have to give a lot of credit to the amazing StolenSpace crew (D*Face, Leon, and Beth especially) and my posse of Dan Flores, Z Bomit, Jason Filipow, Jon Furlong, and Delphine for working long hours to make everything come together. Also, Simon and Romeo for their efforts with the OBEY Clothing pop-up store which was a great success. The opening was a blast with Z-TRIP crushing it on the wheels of steel, but I felt bad that the rain was unrelenting for people waiting in line to get into the gallery. To get more people through the gallery, Z-TRIP offered to play two sets allowing us to empty the gallery to get a second wave of folks in. I’m sorry to anyone who had to wait in the rain, but the gallery could only hold 500 at a time and the occupancy police were hawking. The event was overwhelmingly positive despite the capacity issues and rain. I am so grateful for the support people show and I wish it were possible for me to greet and thank everyone individually, so if you were there and are reading this… THANK YOU! Until next time… cheers mates.

DEE DEE RAMONE X Subliminal Projects

SUBLIMINAL PROJECTS presents
DEE DEE RAMONE: A Memorial Exhibition
Opening Reception: Friday, October 26 • 8 PM – 11 PM
Exhibition Dates: October 27 – November 17

I have been a fan of the Ramones since I got into punk rock in 1984. The
Ramones always impressed me with their style, blending a sense of
humor with aggression and pop melody. I did not realize Dee Dee
Ramone made art until a few years ago, but it does not surprise me that
Dee Dee mixes the same sensibilities in his art that the Ramones had as a
band. In Dee Dee’s art there is a connection to Warhol’s Pop art,
Basquiat’s street scrawl, and Punk’s sense of humor and antagonism that
feels like an uninhibited visual manifestation of the fun and bizarre world of
Dee Dee. I feel very lucky that Subliminal Projects can showcase these
paintings and share the visual dimension of Dee Dee’s remarkable
creativity. (Shepard Fairey, 2012)

Art Action for Kids, UK – Art Auction happening Now!

I’m helping a great kids charity in the UK – Art Action for Kids. A cool collection of modern and street artists are auctioning works online to raise money for kids arts programmes – you can bid for my work and raise money for a great cause at the same time.

Curated by Art Action for Kids, the auction of more than 30 works is currently on NOW at www.artaction.co.uk  and will be live for only a few days. 100% of the money raised will help to fund exciting and creative projects at The Station, a new £5 million city centre youth hub in Bristol, England. Creative Youth Network has completely refurbished The Old Fire Station, providing brilliant facilities including a music department, performance space and dance studio, along with a cafe, chill out space and other youth support networks, The Station will offer a high quality art experience to young people of all ages.

Please take the time to look at the auction site. There really is something for everyone and you could pick up a bargain in the process of helping a great cause. We can really make a difference and give young people a chance to create and be safe.
Thank you all so much for your support,
Shepard

SHEPARD FAIREY X Z-TRIP X SOUND & VISION – THIS FRIDAY!!!

Shepard brings along friend and collaborator Z-Trip to supply the soundtrack to the artwork at the Opening of Sound & Vision at StolenSpace Gallery on October 19th, THIS FRIDAY!!!.

We are pleased to announce an incredible collaboration between Shepard and Z-Trip for the London, Sound & Vision, exhibition. In Shepard’s vision art and music are kindred spirits, and as the work began to develop, Fairey reached out to producer and DJ, Z-Trip to create a soundtrack that embodies the spirit of the show. Z-Trip went to work immediately to produce something worthy of Fairey’s vision. Z-Trip expresses “Shepard does visually what I do musically. We have many of the same influences, it made perfect sense for us to collaborate on Sound & Vision, I was honored to do it.” Be sure to mark your calendars and be one of the lucky to experience this art and music phenomenon.
