Sedation of Millions
The “Sedation Of Millions” print is inspired by the title of my favorite Public Enemy album “It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back”. I think the biggest problem in America is the indifference and complacency about important issues that results from much of the population being perpetually hypnotized by conspicuous consumption, social media, entertainment, and self-medication. Using sedation and escapism for relief from the rat race might make us less aware(blissfully ignorant) but also less empowered to improve our role within the rat race… a vicious cycle of cause and effect.

David Lynch Documentary
David Lynch is one of the most unique voices in American cinema and a truly creative and fascinating guy all around. He makes great visual art and has an amazing Transcendental Meditation charity, The David Lynch Foundation. I have worked with David on his foundation and he is a great guy. The final part of a three part documentary series on David is being worked on and they are partially financing the project through Kickstarter. Check out this link and if you dig David Lynch help facilitate a great documentary.

Shepard to guest star on The Simpsons TV Show on March 4th!!
On March 4, 2012, Shepard will guest star on the 23rd Season of the iconic television series, The Simpsons. Episode 15 – “Exit Though The Kwik-E-Mart”, In order to get back at his dad, Bart goes undercover as a graffiti street artist and plasters Homer’s unflattering image all over Springfield. But one night, Bart and Milhouse get caught in the act by established street artists Shepard Fairey, Ron English, Kenny Scharf and Robbie Conal (guest voicing as themselves), and to Bart’s surprise, they invite him to exhibit his satirical artwork in his very own gallery show. Meanwhile, a hip, new health food superstore opens in Springfield that threatens to put Apu and the Kwik-E-Mart out of business.”
“Part of being on ‘The Simpsons,’ is you’re being honored as a reference point in culture,” Fairey says. “But you also can’t be too sensitive about that part of culture being made fun of…There’s irony that comes with something outsider becoming insider. And they do a great job of examining that.”-Shepard

R.I.P. Michael Davis from MC5
I was sad to find out today about the death of MC5 bassist Michael Davis. I’ve been an MC5 fan for many years and I had the pleasure of working with Michael on an MC5 collaboration for OBEY Clothing. He was a very cool guy with a great family including his wife Angela(yes, Angela Davis, but no relation to the black activist) who once had me and my wife Amanda over for a lovely and fun family dinner with great rock and life stories. Michael started a non-profit organization called Music Is Revolution to keep music in public schools and I did the logo for him. I hope that the organization will continue his mission and my heart goes out to his family and loved ones. We’ll miss you Michael and we will always remember your musical and humanitarian contributions.
