New Mural on Melrose Ave.

I had the pleasure of helping my friend and photographer Aaron Huey with a mural on Melrose last weekend. I designed the mural using Aaron’s great photos from the Pine Ridge reservation. There is a lot of great info and images available at the links below. Check it out. Thanks to the folks from Barracuda who were kind enough to offer their wall for a good cause.

Wind Chases the Sun

I have worked with a few Native American rights and advocacy groups over the years in an effort to combat, and raise awareness about, the pervasive injustice Native Americans have experienced historically. I have also learned about the miscarriage of justice in the Leonard Peltier case. Peltier, a member of the American Indian Movement, was accused and convicted of killing two FBI agents during a shoot out  on the Pine Ridge reservation in 1975 even though no witnesses identified him as the shooter and ballistics were inconclusive. I have created a poster for a documentary about Leonard Peltier’s case called WIND CHASES THE SUN. Proceeds from this print go to the defense committee for Leonard Peltier. Find out more about Leonard and the film here.

Tom Morello x Occupy LA

Rage Against the Machine‘s Tom Morello is among the first signatories of Occupy Musicians, a campaign supporting Occupy Wall Street and the worldwide movement against income inequality. The website aims to co-ordinate performances at Occupy sites and showcase new works by signatory artists.

Tom will be performing at Occupy LA Wednesday, November 30th at 7pm.

PATIENT 13 Kickstarter Campaign

Obey supports grassroots movements; art can change the world. A friend of mine is trying to do just that with a documentary called Patient 13. It will follow the patients and scientists of a clinical trial that looks like it might find the cure for diabetes. Diabetes hits home for me, literally, as I’m a type 1 diabetic.

Patient 13 is running a Kickstarter campaign to fund following the scientists and patients through the human trial. You can participate in changing the world through art by clicking this link and getting involved in the campaign.

Support occupy la now!

The Occupy LA encampment has been warned that they will be evicted from City Hall lawn in the next few days. If you believe in the democratic principals of free speech and the right to peacefully assemble, please send the message below to the LA City officials listed. Anyone who has ever felt like a spectator in our democracy needs to recognize that the Occupiers are fighting for you too. Please show your support.

Very Sincerely,
Shepard Fairey
