Danny Gonzalez X Modern Classics
Danny Gonzalez shot a photo of me and made a great painting which he then gave to me to collaborate on. That piece, along with a bunch of other collaborations Danny has done will be in his show on Thurs. Check it out.

See “God Bless Ozzy Osbourne” Monday 8/29/11
I’m a huge Ozzy and Black Sabbath fan, so when Jack Osbourne called me about doing the poster for a film he was working on about his dad, I was psyched to potentially contribute to the project. I watched a rough cut of “God Bless Ozzy Osbourne” and I was very impressed with how the film balanced its examination of Ozzy’s musical legacy and personal life. Sometimes it’s better not to know too much about your heroes, but this film gave me even more respect for Ozzy’s resilience in the face of various struggles.
I’m amazed and amused that after hesitantly abandoning my punk rock orthodoxy in the 80’s to say to my punk friends “Black Sabbath and Motorhead rock… and they are great to skate to!” that 25 years later I’m able to contribute to Ozzy’s legacy. Thanks Jack.

Obama’s Presidency…
A lot of people ask me what I think about Obama’s presidency. That is a question that takes time to answer thoughtfully.
The current political situation has created a lot of anxiety for me, because I see the gap between America’s emotional frustration and intellectual grasp of the variables that created the frustration, broadening constantly. In fact, Obama’s failure to call out the villains and thoroughly explain the sources of people’s frustration, has left the door open for the Tea Party etc… to harness people’s emotions, even if the frustrated people will fall into supporting the same policies responsible for their problems in the first place.
I have said before that I think Obama is an intelligent, high quality human being, but so far, a less effective leader than I’d hoped for. Obama has been too quick to compromise and has not communicated effectively. A lot of variables have converged unfavorably for Obama and the country, but still, Obama has not demonstrated the leadership for which his campaign showed tremendous potential.
This NY Times editorial, which may be old news for some, insightfully examines Obama’s shortcomings. As I’ve said before, I believe Obama is vastly superior in his values to the Republican opposition, but he is neither strongly verbally advocating for, or potently moving forward with, the policies I’d hoped for. My hope for the sake of the country is that Obama will strengthen his messaging(and actions) ASAP. Read the NY Times editorial HERE.

WM3 Set Free
The West Memphis Three will go free after 18 years of unjust incarceration. They were convicted of murdering three young boys in 1993 based on a retracted confession by one the three who was told he would get the electric chair unless he confessed. The confession was retracted quickly and there was no physical evidence linking the three teens to the murdered toddlers, but they were convicted anyway. Fundraising by advocates for the WM3 including Henry Rollins led to recent DNA tests that found no DNA link between the teens and the murdered toddlers. Thanks to everyone who tirelessly pushed for justice over the last 18 years.
